The final exam schedule is designed for full semester length classes. The University Registrar establishes the official calendar followed by the University of South Carolina system. Access the full current and upcoming semester academic calendars to find key dates and information including holidays, registration dates, payment deadlines, drop or add dates, exams and commencement for each term. New woodwind and brass players interested in joining the Carolina Band must submit a prescreening audition video. Review of videos begins April 3, 2023, and notification of admission begins April 10, 2023. Submissions continue to be reviewed throughout the spring and summer, and auditions continue to be accepted as space permits.

The band’s traditional pregame show and varied halftime shows highlight all genres of music, from traditional school songs to pop music, including rock, jazz and music from movies and television. The Carolina Band performs for home football games at Williams-Brice Stadium and at all away games. Performing regularly for millions on national television, recent highlights include appearances at the 2013 and 2018 Outback Bowl, 2014 Capital One Bowl, and 2014 Independence Bowl. In fall 2015 the band was invited to perform as the halftime entertainment for a Carolina Panthers NFL game in Charlotte, NC.

South Carolina Gamecocks

The South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team represents the University of South Carolina and competes in the Southeastern Conference. During the 1980s, the Gamecocks won five regular season Metro Conference championships and three conference tournament championships. Under Staley, the Gamecocks have earned a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament 4 consecutive seasons (2014–2017). The 2015 season also saw the team win its first out of two NCAA regional championships and advance to the Final Four for the first time in school history.

The rivalry was renewed in football during the 2007 season, with the Gamecocks defeating the Tar Heels 21–15. The University of South Carolina uses "Gamecocks" as its official nickname and mascot. Founded in 1920 as a student-led group of approximately 20 students, the Carolina Band has grown to number more than 350 students representing over 70 academic majors and 20 states.

South Carolina's out of conference opponents represent the ACC, MAC, SoCon and Sun Belt conferences. The Gamecocks hosted three non–conference games which are against Coastal Carolina of the Sun Belt, Akron of the MAC and Chattanooga of the SoCon. South Carolina traveled to archrival Clemson of the ACC for 116th annual Palmetto Bowl to finish the regular season.

Since joining the SEC, the Gamecocks have been part of the league's East Division. "Garnet and black" have been used by the University of South Carolina as its colors ever since the family of J. William Flinn presented a banner composed of those colors to the football team in November 1895, although there was no official adoption of the colors at that time. In 1900, the football team was first referred to as the "Gamecocks" by The State newspaper. The nickname was a reference to the fighting tactics of General Thomas Sumter, the Revolutionary War hero known as the Fighting Gamecock.

Game summaries

After that season, South Carolina, along with fellow SEC member Kentucky (the only other SEC member with varsity men's soccer), moved that sport to the Sun Belt Conference. Women's beach volleyball competed as an independent before joining the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association for the 2016 season (2015–16 school year). South Carolina rugby offers scholarships to certain athletes of up to $60,000 over a four-year period. The rugby team is supported by the Carolina Rugby Foundation and by the Carolina Men's Rugby Endowment Fund. “The Mighty Sound of the Southeast” performs powerful, exciting and entertaining music designed to reach a wide-ranging audience.

Students in the Carolina Band represent nearly every college and school on the USC Columbia campus, with numerous Honors College students and Capstone Scholars. Having marched for over a century, it continues to entertain fans, serve the university and community, and provide students with an outlet to represent the very best of what the University of South Carolina has to offer. The Gamecocks had three players at five positions selected to the preseason all-SEC teams. Founded in 2015, the South Carolina Club Baseball team competes in Division 1 of the National Club Baseball Association. The team finished first in the South Atlantic Conference's Eastern Region in 2020 and 2022. In 2020, then-school president Robert Caslen recognized the team, and pledged to host an ice cream party for the team as a reward for sweeping rival Clemson University in a two-game series in Columbia.

Gamecocks in the Olympics

Most recently, the Gamecocks won the 2017 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament National Championship, marking the first ever National Championship that the men's or women's program has ever won in school history. The Gamecocks share a home with the South Carolina men's basketball team at the 18,000-seat Colonial Life Arena. Muschamp has led the Gamecocks to 15 wins and 11 losses over his first two years, tying Steve Spurrier, and Joe Morrison for most wins in the first two seasons as a Gamecock head coach. On December 6, Offensive Coordinator Kurt Roper was terminated after offensive struggles. Co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon served as the offensive coordinator for the Outback Bowl win against Michigan, and was promoted to permanent offensive coordinator to replace Roper. Werner has previously been on Ole Miss, Miami, and Alabama's coaching staff. The two institutions are separated by just over 125 miles and have been bitter rivals since Clemson's founding in 1889.

Accomplishments include the 2010 SEC East title, the 1969 ACC championship, and numerous bowl victories and top 25 rankings. Players inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame include George Rogers and Sterling Sharpe. The South Carolina Gamecocks men's basketball team represents the University of South Carolina and competes in the Southeastern Conference . South Carolina recorded their fifth 9-win season in the last 8 years, going 9–4, 5–3 in the SEC. The Gamecocks finished in the top 2 in the SEC East for the 4th time in 8 years, and won their fifth bowl game in 7 years defeating Michigan 26–19 in the Outback Bowl. Duke completed the 2018 season with a 7-6 record and a win against Temple in the Walk On’s Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana. Florida State (Sept. 14 at Scott Stadium)Virginia and Florida State will meet for the first time since 2014. It is the Seminoles’ first visit to Scott Stadium since 2010.

Notre Dame has traditionally played Division I FBS football independent from any conference affiliation. In its early years joining a conference, in particular the geographically-contiguous Big Ten Conference, would have provided stability and scheduling opportunities. Conferences have periodically approached Notre Dame about joining, most notably the Big Ten in 1999. Notre Dame elected to keep its independent status in football feeling that it has contributed to Notre Dame's unique place in college football lore. Subsequently, Notre Dame joined the ACC for other sports and agreed to 5 football games with ACC teams per year. Football Schedule

The Rose Bowl could be yet another instant classic with Utah going head-to-head against Penn State. The following is a list of other significant series in order of games played and a synopsis of each series history. The 2020 game, scheduled to be played in South Bend on Saturday October 10, was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, along with all other non-conference games involving Pac-12 schools.

Notre Dame received 22 signed letters of intent, including 21 during the early signing period. The Class of 2019 includes 10 early enrollees, the most ever for the program, who opted to graduate high school early so that they could train and practice with the team during the 2018 spring semester. But where Notre Dame will shine next year will obviously be the defense, led in part by lineman Julian Okwara. Last year, Okwara had 26 solo tackles, including 12.5 for a loss, and eight sacks, and he also picked up an interception and a forced fumble. UNIVERSITY OF

The series is scheduled to resume on a non-annual basis in 2021 with Notre Dame leading the series 58–26–2. Purdue ended Notre Dame's 39-game unbeaten streak in 1950 and posted upsets in 1954, 1967 and 1974. They also hold the record for the most points scored in one game by an opponent in Notre Dame Stadium with 51 in 1960. In addition, Purdue holds records for the most points scored against Notre Dame in the first and second quarters . On September 28, 1968, #1 Purdue defeated #2 Notre Dame 37–22 behind the effort of Leroy Keyes, a two-way player for the Boilermakers.

Future games are also scheduled between the two teams at yet to be determined dates in the 2025, 2031, 2032, 2034, and 2037 seasons. Old Dominion (Sept. 21 at Scott Stadium)Announced in 2016, this is the first meeting between UVA and the Monarchs. ODU restarted its program in 2009 after previously fielding a team for 11 seasons from 1930 to 1940. At that time the school was known as the Norfolk College of William & Mary. The two schools never faced each other during the first era of ODU football. Notre Dame was routed by No. 19 Michigan 45-14, snapping an 8-game losing streak to top 10 teams for the Wolverines.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team

Through the 2017 season, Notre Dame leads the series 47–37–5. The Fighting Irish and Nebraska Cornhuskers first met in 1915 and played each other annually through 1925. During the years of Notre Dame's famed Four Horsemen backfield from 1922 to 1924, the Fighting Irish compiled a record of 27–2–1, with their only losses coming to Nebraska in Lincoln . The Fighting Irish won in 1924 in South Bend and Nebraska won in 1925 in Lincoln, evening up the series at 5–5–1 (the 0–0 tie occurring in 1918). More recently, there was a home-and-home series in 2000–01 (with the Huskers winning 27–24 and 27–10, respectively).

In that game, Notre Dame revolutionized the forward pass in a stunning 35–13 victory. For years it was "The Game" on Notre Dame's schedule, played at the first Yankee Stadium in New York. Kelly was adamantly opposed to such a requirement if it meant taking Navy off the schedule, specifically calling a potential loss of the Navy game "a deal-breaker."

Notre Dame (Sept. 28 at Notre Dame Stadium, Notre Dame, Indiana)The matchup with Notre Dame will be the first game in the series at Notre Dame Stadium. Notre Dame won the previous two contests, most recently defeating UVA, 34-27, at Scott Stadium. UVA and Notre Dame’s first meeting was in the Kickoff Classic at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey, to start the 1989 season. UVA and the Fighting Irish are also scheduled to meet in Charlottesville in 2021 and again at Notre Dame in 2024 as part of the Fighting Irish’s football scheduling partnership with the ACC. Notre Dame finished the 2018 season with a 12-1 record, losing to Clemson in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff at the Cotton Bowl. The Irish finished the season ranked No. 5 in both the AP and coaches’ polls.

The Cavaliers’ season-opening game at Pittsburgh will mark the first time since 2003 that UVA will open its season against an ACC opponent. That year, the Cavaliers defeated Duke, 27-0, on Aug. 30 at Scott Stadium. It marks the second time UVA has opened its season against the Panthers; Pitt defeated Virginia, 38-13, at Heinz Field on Sept. 2 to open the 2006 season. After leading the Cavaliers to the Belk Bowl championship, quarterback Bryce Perkins will again pilot the UVA offense this fall against a schedule that includes seven games in Scott Stadium. The Irish officially kicked off the 2019 season as they do every season, traveling just under an hour south of campus to Culver Academies in Culver, IN, for an intense five-day training camp. Lance Taylor was hired to replace Denson as running backs coach.

However, several college football historians, including Murray Sperber, have uncovered evidence that somewhat contradicts this story. Of the most contradictory parts is the idea that Rockne was resistant to playing out west. Sperber documents that USC offered to play Notre Dame back in 1925 at the Rose Bowl. Notre Dame ultimately played Stanford that year because they were the Pacific Coast Conference champs.

The loss, combined with the loss to Georgia earlier in the season, ended Notre Dame's hopes to qualify for the playoffs. Clemson would go on to defeat Alabama 44–16 in the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship. Northwestern ended the series after 1948, as did several other schools who were getting tired of being beaten year in and year out by Notre Dame, and the two schools would not meet again until 1959. By then, Ara Parseghian was coaching the Wildcats, who notched four consecutive victories over Notre Dame between 1959 and 1962. After Ara came to Notre Dame, he posted a 9–0 docket against his old team. In fact, the Fighting Irish did not lose to Northwestern again until September 1995, which was the beginning of a Rose Bowl season for the Wildcats and the two teams' last meeting for nearly 20 years. The series was renewed in 2014 when the Wildcats traveled to South Bend for the first time since 1995, defeating the Irish 43–40 in overtime. The Irish repaid the visit in 2018 when they traveled to Evanston and defeated Wildcats 31–21.
